Renault has added another electric model to its line-up with the new Kangoo E-Tech. It’ll go on sale in spring 2022, sitting alongside its combustion-powered counterpart and becoming a new rival for the likes of the Citroen e-Berlingo and Peugeot e-Partner.
The new Renault Kangoo E-Tech electric features a 121bhp electric motor which is powered by a 45kWh battery pack placed under the van’s floor. Renault claims a maximum range of 186 miles. Regenerative braking with three set positions can be used, while there’s also an Eco drive mode designed for maximising range when the vehicle is carrying a light load.
When connected to an 80kW DC rapid charger, the battery can receive 106 miles of range in around 30 minutes. A 15–100 percent charge takes around four hours using a three-phase 11kW charge point, while a full charge with a 7.4kW wallbox takes six hours. 80kW and 22kW rapid charging are optional extras, as is a heat pump system for cabin preconditioning.
The Kangoo E-Tech electric is available with a choice of two wheelbase lengths. The load bay in the standard model has 3.9 cubic-metres of space and a maximum payload of 600kg. The long wheelbase variant measures 4.9 cubic metres and can carry up to 800kg.
As the two vehicles are built on the same platform, the electric Kangoo comes with the same level of equipment as the combustion-engined model. It is offered the same roof-mounted storage rack in the back for items up to 2.5 metres long, and Renault’s pillarless sliding door system, which allows for longer items to be loaded more easily in tight spaces.
The eight-inch infotainment system is the same, as is the folding front central seat back that converts into a mobile desk. Buyers can also specify adaptive cruise control, a heated windscreen, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel as optional extras.
