MG Marvel R Electric Flagship Starts Sales In Europe Priced From €39,990

MG Motors continues its offensive in the European market with a fully electric C-SUV flagship – the new MG Marvel R Electric. If the name by any chance sounds familiar, it is because the model was announced back in March for a scheduled debut in May, which was then postponed for October.

The Marvel R is not actually a brand new vehicle as it is already offered in the Chinese market since 2020. In fact, it is a redesigned version of the Roewe Marvel X which debuted in 2018. Styling is identical to the Rowe Marvel R beside the front and rear badges. Thus, the standard LED headlights/taillights and large intakes look fairly modern, combined with a typical SUV silhouette.

The MG Marvel R Electric is available in three trim levels – Comfort, Luxury, and Performance. Both Comfort and Luxury models are fitted with two electric motors on the rear axle, producing 177 hp (132 kW / 180 PS) and 410 Nm of torque (302.4 lb-ft). This allows a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).

The Performance version gets a tri-motor setup adding a single motor to the front axle for a combined output of 284 hp (212 kW / 288 PS) and 665 Nm (490.5 lb-ft). This one accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds while retaining the same 200 km/h (124 mph) top speed.

All EU-spec MG Marver R Electric models are fitted with the 70 kWh battery, offering up to 402 km (250 miles) of WLTP range for the dual-motor and up to 370 km (230 miles) for the tri-motor. The battery can be charged from 5-80% in 43 minutes from a DC charger. The standard Vehicle-to-Load allows the battery to supply energy to external electrical systems, with a maximum load capacity of 2,500W.

MG claims that the five-seater cabin features premium materials and generous equipment. The trunk has 357lt (12.6 cubic feet) of space with an additional 150lt (5.3 cubic feet) at the front. A huge 19.4-inch touchscreen is dominating the inclined center console, incorporating the MG iSmart infotainment system (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity, Amazon Web Services), combined with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, 4 USB ports, panoramic sunroof, and partially leather upholstery. The Luxury and Performance trims add a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, heated seats, and Bose premium sound system. In terms of safety, the MG Pilot suite includes 14 ADAS including the Traffic Jam Assistance.

In the European market, the MG Marvel R Electric will be sold alongside the similarly sized MG HS plug-in hybrid, competing with the likes of the VW ID.4, Skoda Enyaq iV, Kia Niro EV, etc.

Pricing starts from €39,990 ($46,304) for the base Comfort, rises to €43,990 ($50,932) for the Luxury, and goes all the way up to  €47,990 ($55,563) for the flagship Performance, placing it at the very top of MG’s range.
